G’day, I am Christiaan McCann BBus (LaTrobe), BA (Utas), MSW (Deakin).

Working toward planned change, that is done with care, in consideration of contexts, being reflective of the use of power

In a Nutshell

Christiaan McCann is a community-focused practitioner whose work bridges creativity, social justice, and inclusion. Through initiatives such as Food Not Bombs Hobart, he supports urban populations experiencing food insecurity and poverty. As the founder of Woodcraft Adventures, he has facilitated meaningful work and artistic expression for people living with disability. His commitment extends to grassroots shelter responses for people sleeping rough, and musical outreach to isolated elders in aged care. Each project reflects a lived commitment to restoring dignity, fostering connection, and building resilient community from the ground up. Beyond the Scars is not only a theme but a guiding philosophy: that from pain can come purpose, and from margins can emerge beauty.

Meet “Pete”

Our Breakthrough Case

We supported Pete with what we call ‘deep relationship’

Pete’s journey is a powerful example of transformation. Once a resident at our StreetShelter, Pete moved from homelessness to stability through support and opportunity. He became a key leader—now the coordinator of Food Not Bombs and the driving force behind Pete’s Nite Cleaning, a community microenterprise offering flexible cleaning work to others facing homelessness. His story is proof of what’s possible with dignity, purpose, and a chance to contribute.

Petes Night Cleaning

An initiative of Microenterprise Builder

Join Pete on contract cleaning jobs across Hobart and the state. Pete’s Nite Cleaning offers flexible night work—whether you’re available one night or several. We clean supermarkets and commercial spaces with care and consistency. It’s reliable work, a supportive team, and a chance to build skills while earning. Call Pete now! Ph. 0422 681 246

Our Signature Case

“Eamonn”

Where Colours Meet Emotions

Eamonn dared us to build a challenging narrative. We gave it a scope of truely comic book proportions. We are yet to reach a limit to what Eamonn can do.

Our Impact

Through our diverse initiatives, we:

  • Served thousands of meals to those in need
  • Support entrepreneurs in establishing sustainable businesses or workmanship
  • Bring the power of music therapy and education to marginalised communities
  • Provide emergency shelter and basic needs services
  • Offer outreach and coaching services

My Blog

  • Care, Risk, and the Work of Building Community
The text emphasizes the importance of practical care in community work, highlighting the difference between planning help and actively participating in care. It discusses how relationships, flexibility, and responsiveness are essential, as well as recognizing and addressing people’s varying needs. Community initiatives should learn from experiences to create sustainable, welcoming environments.
