Volunteer Spotlight | Glen

For many years, Glen has been one of the people helping hold Food Not Bombs Hobart together. While much of our work is visible around the Shared Table, community meals, and food distribution, much of Glen’s contribution happens away from the spotlight.

Most nights of the week, Glen is out rescuing food. He has spent years building relationships with businesses, community organisations, and individuals who are willing to see good food put to good use rather than thrown away. These relationships are built on trust, reliability, and showing up week after week.

Food rescue is at the heart of what we do. Without it, there would be no groceries to share, no ingredients for meals, and far fewer opportunities for people to gather around a table. Through his dedication, Glen has helped create the foundations that make this work possible.

His role also represents a type of volunteering that often goes unnoticed. There are no speeches, awards, or headlines. Instead, there are late nights, loaded vehicles, careful sorting, and countless kilometres travelled collecting food that others have overlooked. Glen quietly searches, rescues, and distributes, helping ensure that food reaches people rather than landfill.

In many ways, Glen symbolises the spirit of Food Not Bombs Hobart: practical kindness, consistency, and the belief that small actions, repeated over time, can make a real difference in people’s lives.
