Ned came to Food Not Bombs Hobart while experiencing homelessness and brought with him studies in Law, a strong interest in social justice and plenty of determination. His involvement with FNB Hobart gave him a place to connect with people while he worked out what came next.

He began using his legal knowledge in practical ways, including representing himself and engaging with the anti-discrimination system. He also developed The Food Van, collecting and delivering rescued food to organisations and people who needed it, while involving other volunteers in the work.

Ned’s story became part of the early thinking behind Small Projects: sometimes the role of community support is not to give someone a job, but to help create the conditions in which they can find their own way forward, using the skills and interests they already have.
